Letter: C.H. Players are a treasure

On behalf of our community I want to thank Kitty Witty and her troupe of Court House Players for their recent performance of “When Peace Again Shall Smile.” The story was gripping and the acting outstanding. The drama, set during the Civil War, incorporated a number of letters written by the Taliaferros, a prominent Gloucester family of that time.

The letters were creatively produced into a wonderfully performed play that told of the many hardships and heartaches brought on by the war; a war that changed our way of life as a county and a nation forever. The drama was presented from both the perspective of the wives and mothers back home and the soldiers in the field. The many personal stories and items of human interest that were conveyed back and forth in these letters to their loved ones were both heart wrenching and fascinating.
