Letter: Businesses blossom throughout Gloucester

Thanks to the Gloucester Business Launch, the Main Street Preservation Trust and Jenny Crittenden for the news of bringing jobs, business and preservation to Main Street. In a related issue, there are some business successes and standouts at the other end of Gloucester—specifically the Wicomico area—that are worthy of attention. I am referring to three small businesses that are standouts in the community; two of which are off the beaten path.

If you turn off Route 17 onto Powhatan Drive, proceed for about a quarter mile and make a left onto Carmines Island Road, immediately to your left is the Wicomico General Store. This small business is a combination 7-Eleven, Farm Fresh and convenience store without the long lines and waiting. You will get immediate and friendly service and learn a little about the long history of the Wicomico General Store.
