Editor, Gazette-Journal:
There are so many wonderful citizens in Mathews County and I have been the fortunate recipient of their acts of kindness for many years. As most of you know, I have retired as the coordinator of the Child Nutrition Program for Mathews County Schools. I do plan to continue my work with meal preparation for Meals on Wheels and am excited to continue serving in that capacity.
Over the past few weeks, so many of you have reached out to me in many different ways and I have felt the love and quite honestly a “little undeserving” of all these kind words. I feel we are all called to serve in whatever walk of life we may travel and I am humbled and grateful for each of you. Without the support of all the organizations, churches, clubs and private citizens, I could not have been as successful. I thank you for your faith in me.
On June 3, The Rotary Club of Mathews sponsored their annual “Party with a Purpose” and our Meals on Wheels program was blessed to be the recipient of the donations from this event. This was a fun evening and I am very familiar with all the work that goes into planning an event such as this. It was wonderful to see all of those in attendance and it was a fun evening. This was a huge success and I am so grateful to each and every member that worked so hard and to all those that attended and donated.
On Sunday, June 25, Kingston Episcopal Parish hosted an organ recital, “A Celebration of British Music,” and all in attendance were blessed by the wonderful performers. The Rev. J. Coleman Tyler, Libby Boyer and Dr. Daniel Corneliussen were outstanding as organists. We are blessed with the beautiful singing voice of Lynda Smith and the community choir was excellent. Donations were received for Mathews County Meals on Wheels and the Kingston Parish Music Program. Again, we are blessed by the generosity of the citizens of Mathews County. Many thanks to Ray Stubblebine, who was very instrumental in the organization of this event and all who gave their time and talent to make this event successful.
After some time away in July with family, I look forward to a slower pace while continuing to serve the Meals on Wheels community. I plan to deliver meals, get to know my volunteers on a more personal level and have a good time while I am at it!
Many thanks, Mathews County.
