Letter: Being gay isn’t a point of view

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I’m responding to Mr. Crowe (May 24 Readers Write, "Library shouldn’t promote any particular point of view"), who laughed and then felt "incredulous" while reading Jody Perkins’ letter concerning her hope that the library would set up a Gay (LGBT) Pride display in June.

The library’s director took down last year’s display early after receiving only a few complaints. I’m sorry Mr. Crowe cannot envision Ms. Perkins’ description of last June’s display as a "small, tasteful exhibition of LGBT material."

He continued, "Why should an advocacy group have a display at the library?"

LGBT Pride advocates "fighting prejudice and discrimination in their own lives and everywhere it exists." Why is that so offensive to Mr. Crowe?

Also, it isn’t a particular group that decides what to display at the library. That is the decision of the library’s director.
