Over the past couple weeks, I have seen and experienced some of what makes Mathews County great. Being involved here in the county has given me the privilege of volunteering with the great people who get things done here at all levels; schools, After-Prom, Market Days, and Cleanup Day.
Two weekends ago, the MHS juniors and seniors held their prom. Behind the scenes, making things happen were students, parents and faculty. They planned and decorated for many hours to make the event special. Their work paid off and the prom was memorable. At that same time, another group worked diligently to gather the generous donations of local area businesses, shop for prizes, plan and design decorations, organize parent and community volunteers, and eventually run a fun-filled after-prom which kept kids safe and engaged until 2 a.m. None of this would have happened without leadership and volunteers.
