Letter: Bay School’s mission is to support the arts

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I am the chair of the Bay School’s Board of Directors. This is a position I truly love, devoted to an organization I believe is a treasure in our town of Mathews. Our board is a group of dedicated individuals committed to the future success of the Bay School Community Arts Center. Each board member has their own love for Mathews that runs deep in their hearts.

The Bay School purchased the Maple Avenue property with the intent of incorporating it into our master plan for growth and improvements. We want to grow to successfully meet our expanding programs for the community.

We are here in Mathews to support all the arts, foster lifelong educational experiences, reach out to our young and elderly through our outreach programs, and to support our local artists.

I understand the passion for keeping and restoring our local history. I embrace the value of history and traditions. But for the Bay School to preserve the Callis house is beyond any viable option ...
