Letter: Another American tragedy

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

A surprise? No. A shock to the senses? Yes. Another mass shooting in the United States of America. Once again at a school. This time in Florida. Our country leads the world in these tragedies.

What do we hear from Washington? Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the victims, their families and their communities. Empty words from empty politicians with empty hearts.

The shooter that murdered and wounded so many was not old enough to buy a beer, yet he was old enough to buy that type of weapon. Did he have mental issues? I imagine that is yet to be determined.

If people want to talk about mental illness, start with this administration. Talk about why funding for mental illness was cut. Talk about why a bill from the previous administration on mental illness was reversed. Why a bill was signed to make it easier for someone with a mental disability to pass a background check.

The right for all Americans to live a safe and happy life without the worry of mass...
