Letter: An outpouring of community support

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

Riverside Convalescent Center in Mathews celebrated National Nursing Home Week recently by drawing from the well of our community. When we started planning for this special week, we already knew of the talent around us. As usual, these folks were just a phone call away. The responses were: “Sure, I will be glad to come; just let me know what day and what time.”

The week began with a recital by Barbara and Company on Saturday. There were Mother’s Day corsages, and then Sunday school and worship services were handled by volunteers. Here are the programs that our community and local business organizations provided:

A wonderful visit from Sibley’s-Mathews Visitor Center. They provided old Mathews items from their display case, and our residents not only got to see and remember; they were told about the goals and objectives of the center.
