Editor, Gazette-Journal:

On June 8, I attended my granddaughter’s promotion from Abingdon Elementary School. Their guest speaker was John Gordon, owner of our local Chick-fil-A, and a wonderful presentation it was.

He borrowed a motivational speaker’s story and gave it in a way that children and adults could digest. His story was how a farm couple in the 1840s set off a chain of events that ended with a Nobel Prize and hybrid corn that has saved millions over the decades. His story had a simple message: What you do with your life matters.

Congratulations to the children at Abingdon Elementary and thank you very much to Mr. Gordon.
