Letter: An essential Constitutional protection

Yes, Mr. Knupp, we’ve had enough (Readers Write, “We have had enough” by James Knupp, Aug. 8, 2019). Enough of the attacks on the Constitution and on the rights of Americans to own and use firearms. If he were honest, he would admit that drunk drivers kill many more people each year than those who misuse firearms. However, our experiment with Prohibition didn’t go so well.

The founders of our nation wrote the 2nd Amendment to ensure that the people of our land could protect themselves from a government that sought to remove liberty. Everything Mr. Knupp suggests banning is precisely what the founders wanted in the hands of citizens; arms and accoutrements of a type in the hands of the military and police. Lamentably, history proved them all too right. Consider the list of notables in the 20th century that advocated and implemented gun control. Kemal Ataturk, Benito Mussolini, Joseph Stalin, Francisco Franco and Adolf Hitler all advocat...
