Letter: Agencies agree to improve communications

This letter is written as a follow-up to a complaint that I lodged with the Mathews Board of Supervisors about the Mathews Social Services Department. This was recorded in the report of the supervisors’ December meeting by this paper.

Since the complaint concerning alleged elder abuse was lodged, there has been a joint meeting held on Jan. 11 between the Mathews Social Services Department, the Mathews Sheriff’s Office and the Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad. The outcome of this meeting was very positive and an agreement was reached whereby all the agencies will work together to establish a meaningful training program where all concerned will be better prepared to handle future problems as they arise.

I am very pleased to report that new protocols and better communication guidelines will be in place that will make all agencies better able to protect the welfare of the citizens of Mathews County.
