Letter: Adapting to changing demographics

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

“We hold these truths” … great words from a great time in our history. A small country populated mainly with WASPs like me with a common agenda. Freedom is formed and a Constitution is written, insuring the rights of all free men. This is the world of our founders that many today write incessantly about, listing our divided government’s sacrileges. Wake up Virginia, America and the world of then has passed, never to return.

The demographics of our country have and continue to change and with that come many sub groups with agendas they support, each wanting a voice. You see this in not only a fractured GOP, but the Dems as well. How do they represent minorities, seniors, singles, the young, the poor, when in each of these groups there are sub groups?

By 2060, we WASPs will be 44 percent of the U.S. population, making folks like me the minority. So playing well with others is a behavior for our own survival that we must learn. In Congr...
