Editor, Gazette-Journal: It is hard to believe the damage that Donald J. Trump and his merry band of sycophantic miscreants have done to this country. Even more disturbing is the lack of resistance to his actions by Republican members of Congress. It is painfully obvious that they must love their jobs more than their country. Perhaps this is because Trump has made it clear that he will seek to replace them if they oppose him in any way. History is not kind to this sort of thing. His latest gambit is a scheme that defies description. After dropping a billion-dollar lawsuit against himself, his Justice Department has established a $1.8 billion slush fund, paid for with taxpayer money. This is designed to compensate his friends and fellow MAGA adherents for any embarrassment they might feel for being convicted of various crimes. Details about eligibility are somewhat sketchy. But that’s not all! Trump and his family are to be exempt from prosecution for any past or future financial crimes...
