Letter: Abolish Social Security

In response to the good cartoon by Art Miller ‘Bird’s Eye View’ in the Aug. 23 issue of the Gazette-Journal with the caption "Let’s not mess with Social Security," I maybe think that Mr. Miller does not get the idea that there are more people now collecting money via the entitlement program which is Social Security than there are people paying into the system.

Nothing can exist without a system and most systems eventually wane. As a 30-something citizen with a mandatory Social Security number, there is nothing that says I will ever get back into my pocket some or more than the earnings which I so unwillingly and involuntarily have or will contribute to the Social Security program. I could die before I reach the age when I am lawfully eligible to collect. Other things can happen.
