I would like to thank Theresa Morgan, owner of Flowers from the Heart, for coordinating and organizing members of the community on Memorial Day to place flags on the graves of each and every veteran interred within cemeteries around Mathews County.

Thanks to her efforts, she raised money to purchase American flags so that volunteers could have an opportunity to honor veterans on Memorial Day. My husband, who is a veteran of the United States Air Force, joined me and student members of the Mathews High School History Club and their parents at Smithers Cemetery where together, we placed 97 American flags on the graves of veterans who served in World Wars I and II, as well as Korea and Vietnam. 

This was such a meaningful experience and I wanted to personally thank Theresa for going above and beyond to ensure that the veterans of Mathews County were remembered and thanked. Although I never considered Mathews a military town, after yesterday, I am very bles...
