Letter: A wonderful day

Salem United Methodist Church in Mathews held a fundraiser on Wednesday, Feb. 24 to benefit Kathy Rowe, who was a victim of a house fire. Kathy is a member of our community and while it was wonderful helping her, it was also refreshing for us to have our members in the building working together. There was lots of conversation, laughter and love, which was much needed in this time of COVID. The Gazette-Journal ran an article on this Feb. 25 and there is one thing I need to clarify. The article stated that this event was sponsored by Nelda Gibbs and her staff. While my staff always supports all of my efforts, this event was sponsored by Salem United Methodist Church. The members of our congregation had a wonderful time being together supporting a worthy cause. However, without the support of our community, this would not have been a success.
