I wanted to build on Ann Miller’s letter last week regarding the success of the Chasing Pavement Vintage Automotive Festival in Mathews Court House on June 1. I had the honor of volunteering with fellow Mathews Rotarians in helping with the event, and am so grateful to Mac and J.C. Casale for bringing this unique event to Mathews County. Our streets were filled with cars that were works of art, our stores were filled with shoppers spending money, and all restaurants were filled to capacity.

I cannot imagine the amount of work the Casales put forth to make this event a success, but I am impressed that their efforts were to simply make monetary donations to Mathews County, and they even used their restaurant as a venue to raise money, pledging to donate 100 percent of gross sales to our county’s fire, rescue and sheriff’s departments.
