Letter: A shout out to Mathews restaurants

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I just wanted to give a shout out to Mathews restaurants during these uncertain and challenging times. They have managed to keep the lights on for us, serve up down-home food and fine dining, and offer a friendly, unique atmosphere for all of us.

From Hole-In-The-Wall, Mathews County’s wonderful only waterfront eatery (what a view and staff!), to Richardson’s amazing selections of specials and ice cream, to Linda’s just-like-Mom’s breakfasts, lunches and sweet tea, our favorite Mi Casa Azteca and Mathews Grill & Deli menu items (fajitas and margaritas!), Southwind’s fried oysters, pizza and beer selection, Salty Dog’s pizza and sandwiches, Shun Xing’s perfect Chinese menu, Howard-Dooley Cafe’s comfort food, Backwoods BBQ at Moughons (that brisket sandwich!), White Dog’s suitable-for-your-anniversary-or-engagement celebrations (and excellent lighting), The Seafood Shack food truck (and prepared yummy plates), Island Stop’s sandwiches, pasta salads and pies, along with hand-cut meat from the former butcher at Best Value (and fishing gear or wine if you need it), and, heck, even Subway and Hardee’s served up with local flair, it’s impressive.

I hope I haven’t forgotten anybody. We should raise a glass to all those who provide us with an astounding selection of restaurant family food choices in our tiny town that could go up against any big city. Thank you!
