Letter: A regrettable saga

Editor, Gazette-Journal:
I have been following the extremely regrettable saga of the Mathews Board of Supervisors v. Hole in the Wall Waterfront Grill in the Gazette-Journal for the past several years. Messrs. Jones and Walls may have deluded themselves into believing they are trying to extricate the county from a bad lease agreement negotiated by the prior administration. But it appears that most informed citizens have concluded that Messrs. Jones and Walls have instead embarked on a personal vendetta with no bounds.
Messrs. Jones and Walls ambushed HITW with an adverse engineering report from a Williamsburg firm at a BOS meeting. They voted to refer the past history of building code and zoning issues to the Board of Zoning Appeals. When the BZA found in favor of HITW, they sued them at a cost of hundreds of thousands in “outside” legal fees. They have been personally sued by HITW for malicious prosecution and abuse of process. And now they have been parties to a self-help eviction.
