On visits back home, I always try and carve out time to ride down Williams Wharf. Last weekend was no exception. This letter may be a little later than others, but thank you to everyone who has helped transform an important part of Mathews County’s history into the legacy it will become for future generations.
Looking out over the East River, one can picture the old steamboats that came up to the Wharf and I think about my great-grandfather, Charlie D. Hudgins, since he had once served at the Williams Wharf Post Office. Today, Williams Wharf has become home to many county activities, not the least of which is the world-renowned Mathews crew team.
The revitalization of Williams Wharf is one of Mathews County’s crowning achievements.
