Letter: A lasting tribute to the Gloucester 40

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

The recent elections ended a sad chapter in the history of Gloucester County and it was accentuated by another lawsuit by the supervisors that were the target of a recall initiative. Gloucester is now blessed with a board of supervisors characterized by integrity, competence and service to the citizens, as well as a capable county administrator in Brenda Garton and dedicated county employees.

As we start a new chapter, we should not forget the lasting contribution to the county made by the Gloucester 40 who were lauded and applauded by both chambers of the General Assembly and whose work was the basis for a new state law that facilitates the recall of officials whose performance is substandard or worse. We should never forget the contribution of the Gloucester 40 and, in that spirit, we should name the new park in Woodville, the Park of the Gloucester 40 as a lasting tribute to the men and women of the Gloucester 40.
