Letter: A good idea after all

Recently, I had the pleasure of reading the most recent “Beehive,” which included an article about the wonderful history of the Literacy Volunteers of Gloucester. I then moved on to check out the organization’s website. How amazing!

Thirty-six years ago, Sally Horrell and I had a vision as to how to expand Gloucester County’s Adult Basic Education program to serve lower functioning students utilizing the skills and dedication of volunteers.

Literacy Volunteers of Gloucester was the result. Little did we know that current volunteers and their predecessors would take that vision far beyond anything we ever expected or hoped to achieve. My deepest respect and gratitude goes out to every person whoever attended a training session, met with “their student,” took precious personal time to reach out to lesser educated souls, or in a thousand other ways helped an adult improve basic educational skills.
