Editor, Gazette-Journal: Those present at the Oct. 25 meeting of the Mathews Board of Supervisors were treated to a display of prejudice by Ms. Mason. She gave a slideshow, with voiceover that was alleged to be a plea for healing over the division over the Confederate monument. Mathews residents had at the polls voiced their feelings about the monument and Ms. Mason’s slideshow did nothing to heal, but only further divide our community. Ms. Mason knew that supervisors were limited to 10 minutes to speak, and could have tailored her remarks to fit that structure. She didn’t. She obviously felt she was entitled to disregard the bylaws. Mr. Walls called the time limitation to the attention of the chairman, and insisted in adhering to the rules.
