Letter: A different story to tell

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

We’ve all heard the negative comments concerning young black men, but I have a different story to tell.

I had just shopped at Walmart, loaded my groceries into my car and drove the ride-on cart to a clear area. I then opened my car door and was thrown off-balance. I fell backwards and landed hard on my back on the pavement, and was unable to get up. I called out for help and two young men came to my rescue. They asked if I was all right and I said I thought I was, but couldn’t get up. They managed to get me on my feet and asked again if I was okay and did I need the rescue squad. I said I thought I was okay and they picked up my purse, cane and keys and helped me to the car.

They couldn’t have been kinder, more considerate or concerned for me. In my confusion I didn’t get their names, but I want them to know this 83-year-old lady is very grateful to them.

There are a lot of really good people in this world, despite what you hear.
