Letter: A bridge to nowhere

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

Remember the Sarah Palin Bridge? It was never built. Well, VDOT is ready to start building a $400,000 pre-stressed concrete bridge on a dirt road in Gloucester. VDOT counts an average of 80 vehicles per day on this road (this count includes a trip out and a trip returning). An alternate route which does not need a bridge is available.

The Board of Supervisors was requested to abandon the road that this bridge is on twice, Feb. 4, 2014 and July 15, 2016. On Feb. 4, 2014 the BOS discussed it but did not conclude the discussion. The BOS has not discussed the July 15, 2016 request.

Do you think $400,000 for a concrete bridge on a dirt road which is used by only 80 vehicles per day is a prudent use of your tax dollars or the best place for VDOT to apply these funds?
