Editor, Gazette-Journal: Newly elected Virginia governor Abigail Spanberger and the Democrats’ control of the Legislature have wasted no time in their effort to turn Virginia into the next failed state, like California or Minnesota. Spanberger and the Democrats campaigned as moderates on a gauzy platform of improving “affordability.” Unfortunately, “affordability” was just a talking point, nothing more. With one month in office, Spanberger and the Democrats have already proposed aggressive new or increased tax policies that will affect every Virginia resident. Examples include taxes on: *Home delivery, such as from Amazon. *Movie admissions, auto repair, dry cleaning, and other services. *Businesses, such as energy producers, will alone cost residents an estimated $550 million a year. *Personal income, as Democrats advance some of the highest income tax rates in the nation.
