Ware Academy has implemented, “Let Grow,” a new program designed to build confidence and independence in children of all ages. Students are tasked with the homework assignment of trying something new on their own. The purpose of this program is to empower parents to take a step back so that their children can start building resilience, confidence and self-direction at home. Here, third grader Jessie Hicks has embraced the program by learning how to test the blood sugar of her grandfather, Glenn Durst, with a glucose monitor. Hicks has also learned how to gauge tire pressure, make a quesadilla, pump gas, put together her own bed frame, and communicate directions without the assistance of GPS....
