Lending a helping hand

Mathews County donated three vehicles to the Breathitt County Sheriff’s Office in Kentucky last week. Mathews supervisors’ chairman Paul Hudgins, above, said he saw a plea on Breathitt Sheriff John Hollan’s Facebook page asking that anyone with old police cruisers donate them after flooding in July caused extensive destruction in the locality. Mathews had a 2002 Jeep Liberty, a 2000 Jeep Cherokee, and a 2007 Dodge Ram that had been taken out of service, said Hudgins. The assessed value of the vehicles and the shipping costs combined came to $1,775, said Judi Green, deputy clerk to the board of supervisors. “We’re trying to help some people that need some help,” Hudgins said. “Who knows, we might need some help one day.”
