Legion baseball advances to state tournament

The Gloucester American Legion Post 75 juniors (17 and under) swept four games after an opening round 6-4 loss to Williamsburg Post 39 Blue to win the District 3 Tournament last weekend. The Gloucester boys now advance to the American Legion Juniors State Tournament that begins today in Glen Allen.

After the opening loss, Post 75 beat Middlesex Post 241 in a 14-1 game with Nick Brandt and Brady Hudgins combining on the mound for the win. The win set up a rematch with Post 39 Blue.

On Sunday, Gloucester let a 6-0 lead slip away but pulled out a 9-8 victory in eight innings with Williamsburg Blue. With the score knotted at 6-6 in the eighth, Hudgins walked with the bases loaded and Zack Jacosz singled for a 9-7 lead. Cody Brown earned the victory in relief.
