Meredith LeBel of Gloucester, a junior at the University of Mary Washington, has been named to the 2018 Zag Field Hockey Division III Scholars of Distinction list, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association has announced.  

LeBel was one of 268 student athletes recognized for achieving a cumulative grade point average of 3.9 or higher for the first semester of the 2018-2019 academic year. This is the third consecutive year she has been named to the list. 

A 2016 Gloucester High School graduate, LeBel was a starting defender for the Dukes when they won the Group 5A State Championship in 2015.

LeBel has also made UMW’s President’s List for students who have a 4.0 GPA. In addition, she was recently inducted in the UMW Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, which recognizes the superior achievement of juniors and seniors in the pursuit of a liberal education.
