Leash law created in Holly Beach

Dogs will no longer be allowed to run at large in one of northern Gloucester County’s largest developments.

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday night during its meeting in the colonial courthouse to add the Holly Beach neighborhood to the county leash law ordinance that makes it unlawful to permit dogs to run loose in the area.

This comes after Animal Control received a number of complaints over recent years of aggressive behavior from unleashed dogs in the neighborhood.

According to Steve Baranek, chief animal control officer for the county, he and his staff contacted 103 of the 174 homes in the subdivision. Of those contacted, he said 94 homeowners were in favor of adding Holly Beach to the ordinance; three were opposed and six others refused to comment one way or the other.
