League to celebrate 60th anniversary Sunday

 

For six decades, the Piankatank Community League at Harcum has withstood the test of time and continues to fulfill its initial mission of fostering a united voice for the betterment of the community as a whole.

The league will open its doors to the community from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Sunday to showcase its past accomplishments as well as its current activities in supporting the community.

Organized in late 1956, the Piankatank Community League is the only group of its kind still remaining in Gloucester County. Other leagues such as the Walter Reed Community League in Bellamy and a similar league at Hayes have disbanded. Aside from the Piankatank Community League, two others remain in the area, the West Mathews Community League in Bohannon and the Gwynn’s Island Civic League.
