Lawrence named parade grand marshal

Bill Lawrence is the man to go to for those interested in learning more about Gloucester’s rich history.

This weekend, Lawrence, a longtime local volunteer and historian, will be recognized for his contributions in researching and writing about Gloucester’s past when he serves as grand marshal of Saturday’s Gloucester Citizens’ Christmas and Holiday Parade. The parade will step off at 3 p.m. from Main Street Center.

A native of Hampton, Lawrence said his family roots reach to the 1600s in Gloucester. “I remember coming here and visiting as a child,” he said. “They are very fond memories.”

Lawrence moved to the county in 1974, when he and his wife, Carol, built their home on L’s Island, on land that had been in the family for generations.
