The Williamsburg Lawn Bowling Club will hold a tournament and clinic on Saturday and Sunday at the Chesapeake Bay Croquet Club in Hartfield.
The event will begin with the clinic at 9 a.m. which will be followed by the tournament at 12:30 p.m. The tournament’s playoffs will be held on Sunday, beginning at noon.
The Williamsburg Lawn Bowling Club was founded in 1966 and was formerly based in Williamsburg until its home court was closed in 2016. The club has been without a home until being welcomed by the croquet club, which is located at 1860 Twiggs Ferry Road, just north of the Route 3 bridge separating Mathews and Middlesex counties.
The club has members coming from Mathews to Williamsburg and beyond, including Sissy Hall of Gloucester. Hall has played since she was a child, learning the game from her mother.
Hall said the club is the only one south of Pennsylvania and that bowlers from as far north as New York will be coming to compete in the tournament. She said the event will be led...
