Journalist and author Andrew Lawler will be keynote speaker for the opening of the 250 anniversary of the Battle of Cricket Hill at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, at Morningstar Marinas, 249 Mill Point Road, Hudgins. Festivities will continue to commemorate the anniversary of the battle through Sunday, July 12. At the opening ceremony, Lawler will tell the story of the early American Revolution in Virginia focusing on Lord Dunmore as recounted in his book, “A Perfect Frenzy: A Royal Governor, His Black Allies and the Crisis that Spurred the American Revolution.” The event will highlight the dedication of the Battle of Cricket Hill Road to Revolution interpretive sign, the French Capt. Louis d’Ohickey memorial marker dedication and ceremonies conducted by area Sons, Daughters and Children of the American Revolution.
