Laundry list of items addressed in Mathews forums

Candidates for the Mathews County Board of Supervisors and Mathews County School Board addressed a wide array of topics—a laundry list of everything from providing affordable broadband internet and boosting economic development to expanding preschool opportunities and concerns over state SOL testing … and a whole lot more in between—during three separate forums last week.

The busy Mathews campaign season got underway last Wednesday at First Baptist Church, where the Mathews branch of the NAACP held its forum. The following night, the candidates came out to the Gwynn’s Island Civic Center in an event held by the G.I. Civic League.

On Tuesday night, it was the Piankatank Ruritan Club’s turn to consider the seven supervisor candidates and the five school board hopefuls at a forum at that club’s building in Hudgins.
