Late-game comeback falls short for Dukes

A late-game comeback was not enough for the win as Gloucester High School fell, 35-28, to Heritage during the Dukes’ homecoming football game Friday.

After a scoreless first quarter, Heritage scored twice in the second to hold a 14-0 advantage at halftime. Returning to the field with an added spark, Gloucester put together a drive that culminated with a touchdown pass from Isaiah Spencer to Allah Armstead to make it 14-7. Heritage responded with its own TD to put the Dukes two scores back again at 21-7 going into the final period.

During the last quarter, the well-over 3,000 GHS fans got the Gloucester football they came to see. The Dukes put together a scoring drive capped by the touchdown run by Martaine Morris. A turnover on the punt gave the ball back to Gloucester on the 10-yard line and a short pass to Armstead for the touchdown put the Dukes back in the game at 21-21.
