Lassiter wins Saturday’s Micro Tri

The Mathews Outdoor Club attracted 28 entrants on Saturday for its first Micro Tri held at Williams Wharf Landing.David Lassiter finished the swim in the East River (.2 mile), bike ride (eight miles) and run (two miles) in 47:36.2 to take the first place award, followed by Henry McCarthy (49:37) and Joel Isely (50:02.2). Charlotte Hollings was first female winner and fifth overall in 52:02.2.

Organizer Christine Johnson said the micro tri had a record number of first-time entrants and also participation from Andrea Schwartz and Peter White, who are traveling the country to do a triathlon in each state. They chose this race to represent Virginia, Johnson said.

The next event from the Mathews Outdoor Club is the Gwynn’s Island Race on June 28; and the next micro tri is July 10. For information, visit mocva.net/race.
