LARRY N. ‘FESTUS’ OLIVER

Larry N. “Festus” Oliver of Gloucester, passed peacefully from this life on Sept. 23, 2017. He was the son of the late Jack and Elizabeth Oliver. 

Larry spent over 40 years with the Gloucester Fire and Rescue, and was employed at the Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown for more than 39 years. Many of these years as a crane operator supervisor. He served on the Board of the Gloucester-Mathews Farm Bureau for more than 20 years.

Larry was an avid hunter and a charter member of the Shack Hunt Club.

He is survived by his partner of 26 years, Dale Butler Moore; her sons, Ronnie (Kim) and Daniel Moore. Larry will be greatly missed by his siblings, Mary O. Darling (Jock), Walter M. Oliver (Elsie) and Jean O. Jiacinto, and numerous family member and friends. 

The family received friends on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017, from 6:30-8 p.m. A graveside service was held on Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Bellamy United Methodist Church Cemetery. by Beth Darling.

Memorial donations may be made to Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 1417, Gloucester, Va. 23061 or to a charity of your choice. The family asked that everyone that attended the visitation and service be dressed casual.
