Larry Eugene Smith, 76, of Portsmouth, died Sept. 21, 2017 at Maryview Medical Center.

He was the son of the late Herbert and Lois Emerson Smith.

Larry, a first responder for more than 50 years, was retired from Essex County as the Emergency Services Coordinator. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

Larry loved his dog Jack and enjoyed cooking, but his pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with them. Larry will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his sons, Jason Smith (Chrissy) and Steven Smith, and grandchildren, Amanda, Christopher, Sarah, Grant, Craig, Emmitt and Holden. He was predeceased by his daughter, Tanya.

A celebration of life conducted by the Rev. Sven vanBaars was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Inurnment was private.
