Lane closures held on Monday for Coleman Bridge repairs

Single-lane closures for both north- and southbound traffic were held earlier this week at the George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge so that crews could repair electronic signs on the span.

Nora Chivers said Tuesday that crews closed off one of the northbound lanes for sign repairs from 9-10:30 a.m. Monday, then worked from 10:30 a.m.-noon in a closed-off southbound lane.

The repairs were necessary because new electronic signs installed at the bridge earlier this month experienced some operating problems after a power outage occurred.

Part of the problem, Chivers said, was that the operating standards for the signs did not meet specified manufacturer’s original settings.

The bridge was closed for two nights earlier this month to allow crews to erect new electronic message signs atop the span. It was closed for seven hours each of two nights, one night for northbound signs and one for southbound lane signs.
