Beginning Tuesday, the Virginia Department of Transportation will alter its schedule of single-lane closures along a section of Hickory Fork Road at White Marsh.

"VDOT had permitted earlier lane closures during the summer, while school was out of session, but we are returning to the late-morning schedule so we do not delay any traffic traveling to school," said Kelly Hannon, VDOT communications manager for the Fredericksburg District that includes Gloucester and Mathews in its service area.

Once school is back in session, the lane closure hours will revert to 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Hannon said. The summer hours were 7:45 a.m.-5 p.m.

Lane closures are planned only Monday-Friday. No closures will be permitted from 6-9 a.m. starting Tuesday, she said.

The construction project, which began with clearing and grubbing in early June, includes widening and reconstruction of an approximately one mile section of Hickory Fork Road from George Washington Memorial Highway (Route 17) near Wawa ...
