LANA KAY EDWARDS

Lana Kay Edwards, 77, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at Heron House Assisted Living in Sarasota, Florida, after battling several years of Parkinson’s disease. She was born on June 1, 1948 in Newport News, and was the daughter of the late Eugene and Louise Smith of Gloucester, Va. She lived in Gloucester for most of her life, graduated from Gloucester High School, and was employed briefly at Cheatham Annex of Williamsburg. She then focused her attention on family and raising her three daughters with her husband, Herbert Paul Edwards in Hayes. She was a longtime active member of Union Baptist Church in Hayes, where she was the Sunday School Secretary and enjoyed fellowship with friends and visiting shut-ins. She enjoyed working out, going to the beach, cooking, taking care of her many cherished cats over the years, and traveling to various countries on bus trips and cruises. For the last 15 years, she spent half of her time in Palmetto, Florida, with Herbert where she was near various beaches enjoying her time in the sun. She enjoyed the community activities, participating in golf cart parades, riding her bike, and going to her local church.

“Granny Kay” was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Paul, and her parents and is survived by her three daughters, Shelly Custis (Gary) of Newport News, Kelly Caldwell (Scott) of Chesapeake, and Paula Brinkman (Rusty) of Cañon City, Colorado; one sister, Debbie Richardson of Mathews; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces/nephews, cousins, and great friends.

Funeral services will be held at Andrews Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2026, with visitation from 1-2 p.m. at Andrews Funeral Home by Pastor Jared Berry. Burial services will be held after the funeral at Bellamy United Methodist Church Cemetery in Gloucester (4870 Chestnut Fork Road). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research at donations@michaeljfox.org.
