Lady Dukes volleyball participates in preseason play

After a long year of unexpected changes and a spring season full of uncertainty, the Gloucester High School girls’ varsity volleyball team is back on the court and ready to take on the fall season.

The Lady Dukes suffered a loss last Wednesday, Aug. 18, in a scrimmage against Jamestown at home. The Lady Eagles defeated Gloucester in three sets.

Gloucester’s preseason continued on Saturday at Mathews High School’s annual jamboree. The Lady Dukes went head to head with Smithfield, Woodside, Warwick and Mathews. The Lady Dukes and Lady Devils split sets during their two-set match, Mathews winning the first and Gloucester coming out on top in the second.

The Lady Dukes have a 12-player team this year, coached by Sean McNash who is returning for his fifth season with the program. Assistant coach Lyndsey Smith, a Gloucester High School alumna, begins her first year with the program.
