Lady Dukes upset Cox to advance in playoffs

The Gloucester High School girls’ varsity basketball team will advance to tonight’s Region 5A semifinals after upsetting Frank W. Cox High School in overtime, 49-47.

Gloucester, the tournament’s #6 seed, was neck-and-neck with the Lady Falcons the entire game. The two teams were tied, 24-24, at halftime. By the end of regulation, the two teams were knotted up once again, 47-47. The Lady Dukes scored the only points in OT to secure the victory.

Top scorers for the Lady Dukes were Marlo Jenkins with 13 points and Sydney Taylor and Cody Brown scoring 12 points each.

The Lady Dukes will play again at 8 o’clock tonight against Salem High School at Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach. The winner of that contest goes on to play for the regional title on Saturday against either Princess Anne or Kempsville.
