Lady Dukes start regional play today

The Gloucester High School varsity field hockey team heads to the 5A Regional Tournament for the opening round at 1 p.m. today. The top-seeded Dukes (16-0) will likely face eighth-seeded Princess Anne, according to GHS head field hockey coach Mike Miller. 

Miller took his team to practice Tuesday at the National Field Hockey Training Center in Virginia Beach, where the tournament will be played. Miller said the girls adjusted well to the faster field surface at the training center.

“I think we’re pretty ready,” said Miller, whose team won the state championship in 2015. “And I know they are excited.” If the Dukes win, they play a yet-to-be-determined opponent at the training center at 3 p.m. Tuesday.  ...
