Lady Dukes split pair in volleyball

The Gloucester High School girls’ volleyball team had a win and a loss in recent action. The Lady Dukes fell to the undefeated Woodside Wolverines in a contest between unbeaten teams on Oct. 12 but won their match with Denbigh on Monday.

Woodside took the first two games last week, winning 25-17 and 25-6, before Gloucester won 25-14. The Wolverines then took the final game, 25-18. Samantha Coates had 14 assists, two digs, three kills and two aces in the loss and Colleen Lemay had an ace, nine kills, an assist and two blocks.

The Lady Dukes beat the Patriots, 25-21, before Denbigh took the second game, 25-21. Gloucester put it away by scores of 25-15 and 25-17. Coates, with 22 assists, and Lemay and Kelsee Oliver with nine kills each, led the Dukes. Also contributing were Mikeala Extine, Marina Paredes, Dez’re Maynora-Peters and Victoria Wilson.
