Lady Dukes shut out Warriors, 7-0

The Gloucester High School junior varsity field hockey team kept its winning ways alive, defeating Nansemond River on the Warriors’ home turf last Thursday, 7-0.

The game was at a quicker pace than what the Dukes had been experiencing from recent opponents, JV head coach Joe Daugherty said. Overall, the Dukes had 20 shots on goal and earned 14 penalty corners. The season total stands at 69 goals midway through the season; the JV Dukes are on pace to score as many goals as last year, 138. 

They allowed their second penalty corner of the year; however, no shot was taken.  While the offense continued to control the momentum of the game, the defense stood out again and shut down the Warriors.

“This has been a tremendous season for the defense led by Kailee Morris, Avery Watkins, Leigha Germain and Madison Johnston.  Although Kareena Ferguson has not had but one shot against her, she is battled-tested and ready from practice,” Daugherty said. Hannah Rippe...
