Lady Dukes shut out Trojans, 3-0

After a pair of Conference 10 losses, the Gloucester High School varsity soccer girls got back on the winning track with a 3-0 shutout of visiting New Kent in a non-conference game on May 3.

Sophomore Brooke Cheatham put the Dukes on the scoreboard first, scoring off a corner play from junior Brooklynn Splitt to make it 1-0.

Gloucester earned a free kick near midfield in the 34th minute and freshman keeper Mackenzie Sullivan sent the ball downfield to inside the 18. Freshman Lydia Hart ran into it and placed a one-touch volley past the Trojan keeper to give the Dukes a 2-0 advantage at the half.

Early in the second half, junior Gwen Robins scored the third and final goal of the game with a shot into the bottom corner of the net. Gloucester keeper Sullivan also contributed a diving save late in the game to help the Dukes earn their seventh shutout of the season.
