Lady Dukes shut out Monarchs, 6-0

“We played pretty well considering the layoff we had,” said Gloucester varsity field hockey coach Mike Miller after his team beat visiting Menchville, 6-0, on Tuesday. 

The Dukes had some time off after cancellations due to Hurricane Dorian but they remained in good form this week as they shut out the Monarchs. Hannah Hamay scored three times, Meg Teagle scored twice and Farren Winter added a goal. Tally Vaughan and Teagle each provided a scoring assist. 

“I thought we did a good job of pressuring them and forcing a lot of mistakes,” said Miller. “We missed a few opportunities in transition but overall I thought we played well. I think we have great senior leadership on the field, which is huge.”

Next week will be a busy one for the Dukes as they host Indian River at 6:15 p.m. on Monday before travelling to Kecoughtan on Tuesday and Nansemond River next Thursday. The away games have 4 p.m. start times. ...
